Charlene Jones Obituary, Death – Charlene Jones of Bloomington Illinois has sadly passed away. Charlene was born in Hughes, Arkansas on October 12, 1970. Charlene was the third child born to sharecroppers Charlie and Essie (Hanes) Richardson. When she was in primary school, she met her future husband, Joseph Jr., who was also a sharecropper. She and Joseph married in 1952 and became husband and wife. They were blessed with five children as a result of their romance: Addie, Purvis, Angela, Ronnie, and Avis.
Charlene and Joseph relocated their family to Gary in the hopes of giving their children a better childhood. After graduating from Roosevelt High School, Charlene went on to earn her certification as a dental assistant, and she worked in that field until she retired in 1982. Mary and Joseph then co-founded and ran three enterprises until her worsening health compelled them to close them down. For the past three decades, Charlene has been an active member of St. Timothy Community Church. She also worked for the Order of the Eastern Star as a bookkeeper.
Cooking, dancing, gardening with her husband Joseph, playing spades and bid whist, and spending time with friends, family, and other loved ones were among Charlene’s interests. She had a great sense of humor and greeted each new day with a smile and thanks. Charlene was one of those people who never met a stranger and made everyone she interacted with feel like they were the most important person in the world. Charlene is survived by her husband, Joseph W. Jones, Jr.; daughters Addie Greer, Angela Jones-Wright, and Avis L. Jones; sons Purvis Jones and Ronnie L. Jones; grandchildren Le’Rie Cole-Carraway, Marjorie Morgan, EdJuan (LaToya) Cole, Andre’ (Mylene) Jones, Joseph D. Hardiman, and Winston (Kimberly) Wright, Jr.
