Hans Harlos Obituary, Death – Dr. Hans Harlos died peacefully on December 10, 2022, surrounded by his family and close friends. His wife and adventure partner, Mary Lisa, who adored him and their time together, will miss him terribly. Hans was ecstatic about his beloved children, Nic and Racine, as well as his adored grandchildren, Loo Loo and Gypsy, and stepchildren, Samantha and Richard. He is Irma’s (Oma’s) proud son, the brother of Bill, Ursula, and Dieter, and the uncle of numerous nieces and nephews. Hans loved his job as a family doctor in Elmvale and, before that, Collingwood. His job was a vocation for him, and he valued his patients as individuals, taking great pride in caring for each of them. Hans was a fantastic clinician, and both the profession and his patients will miss him greatly.
Hans was much bigger than life. He enjoyed traveling and participating in sports, and he was always up for the next big adventure. He loved snowboarding, especially at his favorite Whistler lodge, and anyone who has ever skied with Hans has heard his catchphrase, “there are no friends on powder days.” Hans had a slew of friends on non-powder days, all of whom he adored and who held a very special place in his heart. He enjoyed entertaining friends and family at his Orr Lake cottage. He was a regular at his squash club, never missing a game. He enjoyed golf and traveled the world with his friends on golf trips. Hans had a lifelong love of travel and had visited many countries.
Everyone who has had the pleasure of traveling with him has been left with an indelible impression. His contagious spirit and zest for life, love of people, memorable laugh, and sheer joy from beating his friends at a good game of cards or finding a great deal will be remembered. Hans will always be a ray of sunshine in our lives. In his honor, we will drink fine wine slowly, hug our friends and family more tightly, travel farther, and take “unsanctioned” ski runs on powder days.
