James Hooven Obituary, Death – After a valiant struggle against leukemia, James M. “Jim” Hooven, 69, of Jamestown, New York, passed away on Thursday, December 8, 2022, at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, New York. He was treated there. He was the son of the late Norris S. Hooven and A. Louise “Dolly” Hooven and was born on March 3, 1953 in the city of Corry, Pennsylvania. Jim graduated from Corry Area High School in 1971 and went on to obtain his bachelor’s degree in business from Grove City College in Grove City, Pennsylvania in 1975. Both institutions are located in Grove City. For the 22 years leading up to his retirement in 2019, he served as the business manager for Spectrum Eyecare. Before that, he spent 21 of his working years at the company that was once known as Clark Supply.

He was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church, where he played the organ for the congregation for a total of 38 years. As a passionate fan of music and an accomplished keyboardist, he played in a number of different rock bands. In addition to that, he was a member of the Chautauqua Chamber Singers. He will be remembered as a kind and caring son, husband, father, and grandfather who cherished the time he was able to spend with his family, particularly his grandchildren. He passed away unexpectedly on April 1, 2019. His hobby was saving various animals, such as dogs, parrots, donkeys, and alpacas, and providing them with the care they needed. He loved being outdoors doing yard maintenance. In addition to that, he was an avid reader and enjoyed doing other things such as working with wood, listening to music, creating artwork such as drawings and cartoons for his pals, and so on. He was the kind of person who could strike up conversations with anyone in any setting because to his hilarious personality and outgoing nature.

His mother, Dolly Hooven of Corry, Pennsylvania, his wife of 44 years, Sandra D. “Sandy” Hooven, whom he married on February 11, 1978, his two children, Alicia (Jeremiah) Frantz of Lisbon, Ohio, and Eric (Amber) Hooven of Jamestown, New York, seven grandchildren named Caleb, Logan, Karson, Korbyn, Kipten, Nova, and Mikala, a brother named Timothy Hooven. On Wednesday at three o’clock, there will be a memorial ceremony held at the Lind Funeral Home. The service will be presided over by the Reverend Rob Allport-Cohoon, pastor of Bethel Lutheran Church. In the funeral home on Wednesday, friends and family can visit with the family from one to three o’clock in the afternoon, two hours before the service. Donations in place of flowers can be sent to the Bethel Lutheran Church, which is located at 904 West Third Street, Jamestown, New York 14701.
