Janice Caton Obituary, Death – Janet Caton, 102, of Franklin, formerly of Upton, passed away on September 28, 2022, at the Rose Monahan Hospice in Worcester. She grew up in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, as the eldest of four sisters. She met her husband, Charles Caton, at Becker College in Worcester, where they were both students. They married and settled in Upton, where they raised their children and built a prosperous life for themselves. Janet worked in various capacities at both the Upton Hat Factory and the Upton Town Hall for many years. She cherished spending time with family and friends, as well as hosting and taking part in numerous holiday dinners and simple suppers.
She enjoyed playing cards, putting together complex puzzles, and traveling to new places with her family and friends. She was an excellent knitter, and her signature fisherman’s knit pattern is in high demand. She knitted every day for years, producing numerous sweaters and mittens. She made hundreds of beautiful hats for newborns in the area in her later years. Harriett Fougere and husband Ken of Upton, Alice Caton of Williamstown, and Linda Morgan of Northampton survive her, as do grandchildren Pam Gilday and her children Michael and Holly; Barry Fougere and wife Gretchen and their children Madeleine and Camille; Cynthia Fougere and life partner Jeffrey Teachout; Michelle Bridge and husband Roy and their children Laura Kline and Alexandra Winnicki, and her husband John and their children Thomas, Charlotte Janet also abandons Ellie, her younger sister. Janet was predeceased by her loving husband Charles, sisters Rosalie and Leona, as well as numerous friends and family.
Janet’s life was full and happy, and she was well-liked. All who knew and loved her, especially her family, will miss and remember her. Her funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, October 1 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Gabriel the Archangel Church, 151 Mendon St., Upton. Lakeview Cemetery will host the funeral. Calling hours will be held at Pickering & Son Upton Funeral Home, 45 Main St., Upton, on Friday, September 30, from 5 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rose Monahan Hospice Home, 10 Judith Rd., Worcester, MA 01602.
