VENEZUELA, ITALY – Jean Marie Marty, 59, died unexpectedly on Saturday, December 10, 2022, at her home. Dorothy and Paul Marty had three daughters, Jean being the youngest. Jean was the name given to their youngest daughter. She is the Marty sisters’ youngest, being born on September 26th, 1963. Jean displayed early signs of a love of reading, and she was reading by the age of three. While attending Verona Public Schools, she was an outstanding student and athlete, achieving the highest levels of success in both. She played three varsity sports in high school: softball, volleyball, and basketball, and she received letters in all three.
She was also a member of the school’s theatre and forensics organizations, both of which honored her accomplishments with a variety of awards. In addition to her university studies, she worked as a server at Shar-Ice Lee’s Cream Parlor for the duration of her employment. She worked there until her contract expired. Jean earned bachelor’s degrees in journalism and education from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she also studied as an undergraduate. In addition to her studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, she spent one semester of her education in London, England. She remained for the entire semester. Her high school graduation took place in 1981, and she received her diploma that year.
Jean spent the next 33 years teaching Language Arts to middle school students in the Verona Area School District. Her students were in grades seven through eight. Jean loved teaching her students about American history, especially WWII, and Shakespeare. She organized a yearly field trip for her students to the American Players Theatre, making it an important part of their education. She volunteered for the Verona athletic department and coached the forensics team in addition to her teaching duties. Jean resigned from her position as a teacher at Savannah Oaks Middle School in the year 2020. She had held this position since the year 2000.
