John Blakey Obituary, Death – It is with great sadness that we at Moriyama & Teshima Architects must inform you of the demise of John Blakey, who served as a leader at our company for the better part of forty years. John was a member of our team for over thirty years. John Blakey spent the most of his career with our organization serving in a leadership capacity. John was in charge of the creation of the contract documents for a considerable number of the MTA’s projects that went on to achieve prizes in their respective categories.
Projects such as the Toronto Reference Library, the Bata Shoe Museum, the Guelph River Run Centre, the Aga Khan Museum, the Canadian War Museum, and Surrey City Hall are examples of those that fit into this category. John began his employment with the MTA in the year 1970. His extensive knowledge and expertise in the field of construction, as well as his comprehension of building science and the consequences of cost, as well as his ability to detail projects in a way that was cost-effective while still being aesthetically and technically sound, were all essential. Johnny B, or Johnny B as he was more often known by his employees, was a powerful, astute, and productive member of the team. His coworkers referred to him as Johnny B. John’s humor was as sharp as a razor, and he frequently communicated his thoughts through the use of quips that were delightfully biting. As a result of his dying, all of us are going to feel a profound feeling of loss.
