Marcy went to Mishicot High School and grew up in the Manitowoc region. After she graduated from high school, she joined the United States Navy and served for a while. During the course of Operation Desert Storm, she served her country with honor. While still taking care of her family, Marcy earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Lakeland University. Her children were her primary source of inspiration and motivation, and she worked hard to provide for them in any way she could. After dating for a number of years, Marcy wed Michael Salm on January 25, 2019. The couple has been there for one other through the best of times and the worst of times, staying by each other’s side the entire time. Both in her employment as Financial Director for Ascend Services of Manitowoc and in her volunteer activities, she demonstrated the sympathetic nature that characterized her character. She participated in the life of the St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Manitowoc with great devotion.

Marcy had a deep appreciation for the natural world and delighted in spending time outside, whether she was laboriously tending to her gardens, going on hikes in the wilderness, or exploring the local Ice Age Trail. In her spare time, she enjoyed trying out new activities, making crafts, and even teaching her husband how to play cribbage. She also enjoyed spending time at home. Marcy bravely fought through surgeries, chemotherapy, and a clinical trial at the Mayo Clinic despite the fact that her struggle against ovarian cancer was a brief but long battle. Because of their steadfast support, her family will be eternally thankful to her care team as well as the local community. Our sincere gratitude goes out to all of her physicians, nurses, and care teams, but particularly to those working at Aurora Hospice Care. The family would also like to express their gratitude to Patti Finlan and her team for organizing the recent fundraiser for Marcy, as well as all of the individuals who contributed to the fundraiser and those who took part in it. In particular, they are thankful to Pink Heals of Manitowoc County and the people who live in the Woodridge and Stoneybrook neighborhoods.
