Nell Pyle Obituary, Life Member of Maitland Repertory Theatre Has Passed Away

Nell Pyle Obituary, Death – Nell Pyle, a Life Member who has been with the organization for 98 years, passed away this week at the age of 98. Sharing the news of her passing with our community is something that we do so with a great deal of sadness. Not only was Nell Pyle a wonderful friend, but she was also one of the original members of our theater and remained a member for the rest of her life. She was able to meet her future husband Doug, who is also a Life Member, because to their mutual interest in acting and costuming.

Doug is also a member of the organization throughout its entirety. In the 1950s, when Nell was working as a wardrobe mistress, her passion for playing the piano and dressing up grew even stronger. During her entire fifty-year tenure at the theater, she was responsible for maintaining the ever-growing collection that was stored in the basement of the building. Nell’s contribution was enormous, as shown by the fact that she appeared in more than 50 plays and made costumes for more than 130 acts. Additionally, Nell was a costume designer for more than 130 acts.

She was presented with the very first Maitland Medal in 2004, as well as the Order of Australia Medal in 2005, the New South Wales Senior Citizens Award for Education and Lifelong Learning in 2011, and the Tocal Medal in 2012, in appreciation of her efforts as a Friend of Tocal. In 2014, Nell’s name was included on the Hidden Treasures Honour Roll as a result of the recognition she received for the important role she played as a volunteer in the rural regions of New South Wales and the significant contribution she made to those communities.
We would like for Nell’s family to know how much of a beautiful person Nell was, and how much we will miss her.
